Feel like you’ve been doing the fitness journey thing forever and it’s not playing out like it should’ve by now? Trust me, I know the feeling! That’s why I want to share a few things that have really made a huge difference in making significant gains in the past 9 months. 48lbs of fat off, and several inches for me, and 35lbs for my husband.
Don’t worry, it’s NOT new workout moves, or a new world view per se. It’s not buying a membership to Tight-N-Tone Fitness, even though you should, because it definitely helps! Hey, you should move that body, up until your body will not move for you any mo’.
The success formula is 90% diet + 10% exercise. You’ve heard that before huh? The KEY for me is making my diet (what I eat) more DELICIOUS! How does that sound? Can you feel me on that? You have to get some fatty stuff in that belly, cooked or raw. Let me explain, starting at the taste buds of the tongue.
Scientists have found that there are five taste of the human tongue. You can sense sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and umami(Fats That Heal, Fats That Kill, by Udo Erasmus). Umami, which is Japanese for deliciousness or yummy/savory. There are many articles out there about our bodies desire for fat, for survival sake, so guess what? You don’t have to beat yourself up, or think there’s something wrong with you when you get an urge. You are made just right!
What foods do the umami taste come from?
There are several types of foods that provide the delicious umami taste: fish, shellfish(scallops, clams, mussels, oysters) mushrooms, cured meats, vegetables like ripe tomatoes, spinach, green tea, beef, fermented cheeses, fries & ketchup, bacon, chicken soup (because chicken bones are full of the umami factor), potatoes and Edamame to name a few.
That’s a lot of tasty right! A bacon cheeseburger, or cheesesteak taste like heaven for most people because of the combination of umami foods. My point here is that your tastebuds & body naturally crave these things and you don’t have to feel weak for running to them. Now they say too much of anything can be bad thing. Let’s say you start the day with a bacon egg and cheese biscuit for breakfast, cheese burger and fries for lunch, and pizza and salad for dinner, that’s like umami overload. Which will probably make you look overloaded too.
What’s helped me and my household is to change that balance, making sure we include life giving fruits and vegetables with SEEDS with our meals, or as a meal. The with SEEDS part is key, and that can take up another post by itself. Even the first chapter of the Bible mentions seed bearing fruit and vegetables four times alone, so I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
Here are a few delicious meals we’ve enjoyed this year:
One of the surprising things we have found out, is that adding these fresh items into the diet is NOT expensive, if you cut them up right, and store them correctly. We still eat meats and other umami filled meals, but might have one or two meals through the day, containing the items above, and the umami dishes once per that day. So we don’t miss having anything flavor wise, and have great energy throughout the rest of our busy day.
